Recce Shot

This is the location where we filmed the finale for the music video, where the lead male character throws himself over the side of the bridge as the train comes. It is the train bridge between Werrington Village and Bretton. It is suitable because it is still in use regularly and appears rather industrial, adding to the theme of the video. You can see clearly over the side of the bridge so it is easy to get a camera to view over the side.

Website Creation

The first step of creating a website was to find a web editor which was easy to use. Myself and Lauren decided to use Wix due to its easy editing layout. First I imported the two different edits of the defeater logo then typed the names of the albums and prices in the side panel.
I added the image we created for our digipak and the cover art of the band previous songs. This is because the majority of similar websites did the same thing, as it helps cross sell products.
I added a background and navigation bar. I positioned the background so that the focus is around the centre of the page, to draw attention to the video.
Next I moved the navigation up to the top of the page like the codes and convention research had told me. I also placed the white logo next to the Home button up near the navigation bar.
The main feature of the websites home page is the embedded video because of this i imported the video and centred it.

The last image you can see the the live finished version of the website.

Digipak Creation

One of our tasks was to create a Digipak to go with our video. The Digipak is for an album of the band in which the song we used to create our video from is. We again looked at conventions and the branding of the band. The original bands website was a large influence to me when creating the look and style of the digipak. It's colour pallet contains mainly blacks and greys without almost any other colours being present. I started by looking into the sort of digipak we would use and then decided on this.

Once the type was decided the group gave their opinions on what should be placed where on the Digipak, with the following all being factors which needed to be included in the product.
- Defeater Logo
- Managing company's Logo (Bridge Nine)
- Album Name
- Song Titles
With the addition of Some lyrics and photo stills from our video, which was a design choice.

I started the creation by editing a still from the video. This was the front cover of the product.
To create cover art i took the still and changed the contrast, brightness and colour saturation. I then cropped part of the image and copied it, mirrored it and changed the transparency of all 4 images to create the background.
Then i asked a group member to write Defeater in a close yet different way to the current logo. The new logo was scanned onto the computer and a few small edits and cleaning was done to the image. For example the trailing part of the D was shortened and a few small white specks in the letters were blacked out.

Once this was done I placed the background onto the template and added the new logo, the bridge nine logo and the production company logo which was created by myself towards the start of the project onto the cover as well. The finished cover looks like this.

The song titles side was created by using a still from our shoot and making it very dark, mirroring it, cropping it and finally rotating the image. The text was then placed onto and both were added to the template. The disc holder side also uses the same image without the text, and the image was also flipped.

The remaining blanks in our digipak are filled with colour corrected and minor edited stills from our video. The train track image for example has had some blurring also done.

Quickly created mock ups were also done for some panels but I didn't further use any of them.

Props

Props are also a major factor of our music video, for the same reason as facial expressions. Not very many were needed to show that they don't need anything when the couple are together. But then when she is gone, he has headphone's for music etc. They signify little things like that.

Risk Assesment/Precautions

For our filming process, we were working near water and train tracks. Due to the certain risks we would be undergoing, we took some precautions, such as:

-No cameras and equipment near the water, unless absolutely necessary and completely vital for filming
-Equipment used with care at all times; no messing about with it
-When near train tracks, always beware of trains and crossing
-Always bring a spare camera/battery in case the current battery in use runs out
-Have someone keep actors and cameramen's bags out of shot in case of ruining the shots
-Have someone have the song playing to get an idea of timings with the song

These rules helped us to remain safe and have the filming done as safely and fluently as possible. We were able to make the most out of the time we spent filming our video.

Digipak

After the completion of the music video, we were instructed to make a Digipak. We did some research into different types of digipaks, such as the various sizes and what they include etc. We will use these to create our own one for the album "Empty Days and Sleepless Nights" by Defeater, the record in which our chosen song "I Don't Mind" is from. We will be creating our own album cover and the different sections in the video using screencaps from the music video. We will also be going out to take photos especially for it. The pictures will represent different places in the video, such as the train tracks and graveyards. These will not just apply to our one song, but to the whole album as well, seeing as it is a concept album. So therefore we need to make sure we are carefully choosing what is going into the digipak.

Digipaks are essentially a case in which a CD comes in. They usually contain different little things such as lyric books, mini posters and other things that accompany a CD. The fold out in book style and usually contain pockets etc and in some cases, even extra CD holders. To the right is an example of a basic Digipak. It is for Enter Shikari's "Live from Planet Earth" CD/DVD. This is the basic template for most Digipaks, made from cardboard instead of plastic.

Costume

We have decided to settle for normal clothes for the media films, nothing with big brands on it. We feel we should just portray them as an average couple and there is nothing special about them, yet there is the massive story behind them.

Recce shots

recce shots

These are images that Lauren took whilst looking into possible places to shoot our film at the location we had decided to use, as you can see there are lots of different looking places which have a lot of potential since they add variation to the scenes we will be shooting and we can even make it so it looks like the characters are in a completely different locations which has a lot of potential for the narrative of the song.

Camera angles and shots in the film

We have now completed our Media film and should be uploaded to YouTube once we are back at school after the holidays.

Since this is a music video, it will contain no dialogue from the actual characters in the film, so we have to portray emotions etc through the use of the camera angles and facial expressions. For this we thought it would be suitable to use a lot of close-ups/ECU. This helped us enormously in the process of keeping to the narrative of the lyrics. We have a vary of slow and fast cuts, which match the pace and the jumps in the song. The most useful ones were when we had Jordy (our actor) crying in the graveyard, this helped to portray the sorrow in the scene, which is supposed to be a very powerful one considering he is visiting the grave of his dead girlfriend. There is also a variation of camera movement, such as pans around the characters and also in establishing shots, which set the location. There are 3 establishing shots int he film; the park, the graveyard and the train bridge, all of which portray the location fairly well.
